Yea you read that right. Roads can be and are made of Plastic Wastes.

Q? (LOL) Who did that ??

A: Indians!!!

Surprised !! When we heard and read about it yea we were also surprised. And we also figured out that Indians are the 1st to discover / invent (whatsoever) this technology.

Note: We might be wrong on this statement, but when goggled about the story we didn’t find anyone else doing this. so India is 1st We would love to know if any other country has did this.

Q? Who did this first and where it was done ??

A: Ahmed Khan, Founder of KK Plastic Waste Management, discovered a unique and an innovative way to use the waste to make better and stronger roads. And it was implemented in Bangalore (High Tech City). The plastic he collected has helped pave a 430-km stretch of road.

Q? But how plastic roads are  made / constructed?

A: The process starts when rag pickers take their collection to waste management office. There it is cleaned, segregated by different grades of plastic, then made into a fine powder and taken to the site of construction. On the site the powdered plastic is then mixed with bitumen in a hot mixer and the mixture is laid on the road. This technology can be done by two processes, one is dry and the other is a wet process.

A: Yes

• In Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has laid a 100-metre stretch of Prof V.S. Agashe Road at Dadar using plastic and asphalt.
• South India : About 1,570-km by Bangalore Municipal Corporation, 140 km by Karnataka Municipal Reforms, 1,200 kms in 28 districts of Tamil Nadu.
• Delhi, Underhill Road: The plastic-bitumen road was developed by the Shriram Institute for Industrial Research in 2004 on experimental basis free of cost for the MCD.
• Keshavpuram: Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation also constructed 3.8-km plastic-bitumen road in Keshavpuram in December 2007.

Q? Hmm sounds good, but what benefit does it give!!

A:

• Waste plastic is recycled and reused.
• Less potholes over the time.
• Roads are more durable.

Earth Day which was celebrated last month on 22 April. It was initiated on April 22, 1970, 22 million people participated in the first-ever Earth Day, which was designed to raise awareness about the environment and inspire citizens to take action to protect it.

We have seen the way climate has changed, and is changing across the globe. There were several actions taken by some of the World Leaders, which did not turned out to be a very successful meet. And it has some reasons for that result. The main thing which we want to convey is, its not the Leaders who can save the Earth. Its we the humans who stay on this Earth can save it.

On Earth Day and even after that several volunteers and organizations posted some videos on YouTube to grow more awareness  about how to save our Earth.
